Job Description

Who We Are

In an increasingly complex world where people are starving for someone they can trust, we stand for something simple: always put the client first. We do well by doing good for those we serve. It’s the ultimate measure. We believe in providing value beyond a doubt and in the notion that time will either expose you or promote you, based on your willingness to embrace change.

We serve financial advisors and investors through three entities, each headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska: Carson Wealth, Carson Coaching and Carson Partners. We provide coaching and partnership services to advisor firms – and straightforward financial advice to the investing public. We all share a common mission to be the most trusted in financial advice.

Who We Want
The Junior Software Engineer plays an essential role within the engineering team, focusing on the development and maintenance of software applications. This position is designed for those who have foundational experience in software engineering and are ready to expand their technical expertise. The Junior Software Engineer will be responsible for contributing to the design, implementation, and testing of software features, working alongside senior engineers to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions.

This role requires a solid understanding of software development practices, with a specific emphasis on backend development using Java. The Junior Software Engineer will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, quality assurance, and operations, to ensure that software solutions meet business requirements and adhere to best practices. The role is well-suited for individuals who are proactive, eager to learn, and looking to grow their technical skills in a supportive environment.

What To Expect

  • Contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of backend services and APIs using Java.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, develop software solutions, and ensure alignment with business goals.
  • Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code that adheres to established coding standards.
  • Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback and incorporating suggestions to enhance code quality.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, focusing on improving system performance and reliability.
  • Develop and execute unit tests to ensure the quality and stability of the software.
  • Engage in continuous learning and skill development, with a particular focus on cloud development and related technologies.

What You Need

  • Proficiency in Java, with a strong understanding of object-oriented programming, data structures, and algorithms.
  • Basic proficiency in cloud development, with an understanding of key concepts and services related to platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Familiarity with version control systems, specifically Bitbucket, and collaborative development workflows.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and develop effective solutions.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate with team members and stakeholders.
  • A proactive mindset with a desire to take on new challenges and continuously improve technical capabilities.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Hands-on experience in software development through internships, projects, or professional roles.
  • Familiarity with cloud development, backend architecture, and modern development practices is advantageous.

In exchange for your expertise, we offer a base salary, bonus potential, 401(k) plus matching, health benefits, and a great working environment. This is your chance to play a key role in the continued success of our company. Our culture is fast-paced, collaborative, innovative, and focused on healthy living. Carson strives to promote the health and wellness of its stakeholders by maintaining a tobacco-free workplace.
