We are taking our Database Administration Team to the next level. These talented employees are the drivers of analyzing, designing, developing, testing, debugging, implementing, and integrating new or existing operational efficiencies into the technical infrastructure and existing business processes. In this role you will primarily work with the many different Database technologies but with a focus on Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server. You will also be adding value by designing and developing solutions to improve and enhance our operational processes. You will also drive efficiency by working with application vendors for issue resolution and provide technical leadership to our internal customers. You will use your solutions-oriented approach and high work ethic, along with excellent communication and process management skills, to mentor internal customers and teammates on the Database platforms. Please note this role provides on-call support on a rotational basis along with development activities.
Required qualifications include:
- Deep knowledge in installing, configuring, and maintaining enterprise Database Technology environments such as Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server in an on premise and Cloud infrastructure
- Extensive knowledge installing, upgrading, and performing Disaster Recovery efforts with Oracle and MS SQL Server databases
- SQL Tuning and Database Performance Evaluation and Configuration
- Systems engineering experience, including Linux performance, memory management, I/O & Performance tuning, security, clusters, and troubleshooting
- Experience working directly with customers, resolving database, systems, and infrastructure-related issues, and providing systems architecture leadership
- Working knowledge of relational database internals (locking, consistency, serialization, disaster recovery)
- Coding skills in at least one scripting language a must (TCL, Perl, Python, PowerShell, etc.)
- Minimum 5 years of experience engineering, administering, and managing
- Multiple relational database technologies (e.g., Oracle, MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL, etc.)
- Experience in Agile/Scrum methodology
- Experience in shell and python scripting with focus on DevOps tools
- Significant exposure in various OS administration tasks

Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Employees in this role are responsible for all activities associated with the administration of on-prem or cloud-hosted databases. You will primarily work with the many different Database technologies but with a focus on Oracle and MS SQL Server.
- Design, implements maintain, and monitor databases.
- Develop, document, and implement guidelines, standards, and procedures, maintain database dictionaries, and integrate systems through database design.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
You will be adding value by designing and developing solutions to improve and enhance our operational processes.
You will drive efficiency by working with application vendors for issue resolution and provide technical leadership to his/her team and customers. You will use your solutions-oriented approach and high work ethic, along with excellent communication and process management skills, to mentor internal customers and teammates on the Database platforms.
You will be required to provide on-call support on a rotational basis during office hours and after hours.

Position may be filled at the Lead, Senior or Specialist level.
Employment Guidelines:
Database Administrator - Lead: Bachelor's Degree in a related field and 11+ years’ experience that demonstrates measurable career and technical progression that can be applied to support both the IT Department’s Annual Work Plan and the District’s strategic goals and objectives. Typically, total experience includes 5 years focusing on any technical area within IT and 6+ years focusing on Database Administration. Disciplines for IT education and experience requirements include but are not limited to: Computer Science, Computer/Systems Technology, Management Information Systems, Mathematics, and Systems Engineering.
Database Administrator - Senior: Bachelor's Degree in a related field and 8+ years’ experience that demonstrates measurable career and technical progression that can be applied to support both the IT Department’s Annual Work Plan and the District’s strategic goals and objectives. Typically, total experience includes 3 years focusing on any technical area within IT and 5+ years focusing on Database Administration. Disciplines for IT education and experience requirements include but are not limited to: Computer Science, Computer/Systems Technology, Management Information Systems, Mathematics, and Systems Engineering.
Database Administrator - Specialist: Bachelor's Degree in a related field and 5+ years of experience that demonstrates measurable career and technical progression that can be applied to support both the IT Department’s Annual Work Plan and the District’s strategic goals and objectives. Typically, total experience includes 2 years focusing on any technical area within IT and 3+ years focusing on Database Administration.
Licenses / Certifications:
Valid State of Florida Driver's License is required.
Physical Requirements / Working Environment:
Due to the District's response role and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may at times, be required to provide support before, during and after major storm events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared emergencies, depending on assigned emergency response role.
