The AbbVie Endocrinology, Inc. (AEI) Strategy & Insights team is working to transform AEI into an agile, data-driven organization. This is a great opportunity to be a part of this team in leading the delivery of mid to large-scale, functional, and cross-functional initiatives designed to uncover business insights, helping improve efficiency, and decision making. The AEI Data Platform Architect will be leaned upon as the deep domain expert from both a functional and technical standpoint in overall solution delivery. The ideal candidate will be a proponent for innovation, best practices, sound design with data & information optimization in mind, strong development habits, and efficient team/project structures. The individual will be responsible for driving data platform architecture and governance to ensure secure, scalable, and reliable standard/advanced data insights capabilities are delivered across AEI and its partner stakeholders. AEI is seeking an established Technical Lead to define strategy and manage execution of our next generation data platform to position us for future fit delivery.

In this role you’ll be responsible for:

-Direct point of contact for Data Architecture strategy and execution at AEI, helping support and shape the strategic roadmap and prioritization aligned with business objectives.

-Conceive, design, engineer, and implement software solutions by studying information needs; conferring with users; studying systems flow, data usage, and work processes; investigating problem areas; Demonstrate the ability to resolve key project hurdles and assumptions by effectively utilizing available information and technical expertise.

-Ensure quality and effectiveness of major project plans within function through sound design, early risk assessments, and implementation of fallback strategies. Coordinate resources (where applicable) to ensure project needs are addressed and effectively assign tasks and deliverables to team members based upon need and their abilities.

-Source and identify emerging technological trends from multiple internal and external sources and assess relevance. Integrates trends into functional, short-term objectives that increase the value and effectiveness of the data platforms, applications, and processes.

-Advance technical expertise within function. Proactively demonstrate leadership by advising and sharing knowledge and expert opinions with subordinates, peers, vendors, and senior management. Mentor and train functional colleagues and assess current and emerging business challenges enabling functional goal achievement. Develop and sustain relationships with BTS and business stakeholders while gaining a broader understanding of strategic objectives from an insight generation perspective.

-Provide comprehensive consultation to business unit and IT management and staff at the highest technical level on all phases of application programming and processes for diverse development platforms, computing environments (e.g., host based, distributed systems, client server, software, hardware, technologies and tools, etc.).

-Research and evaluate alternative solutions and recommend the most efficient and cost-effective application programming solution. May code new or modified programs, reuse existing code through the use of program development software alternatives and/or integrates purchased solutions.

Tools and skills you will use in this role:

-Deep understanding of the following technologies and concepts: Data Lakes, Relational and Non-Relational Databases, Data Engineering / ETL, Machine Learning / Artificial Intelligence, Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing, business-driven Data exploration, Web Solution Architecture, etc.

-Requires extensive experience and in-depth knowledge of Data Architecture, Commercial Data Platforms, Data Modeling, Big Data, Cloud Technology, etc.

-Required experience with a wide range of technologies that may include, but not limited to, SAP BW 4/HANA, Amazon Redshift, Amazon EMR, Hadoop, Snowflake, Oracle, Teradata, or Microsoft Azure Synapse.

-Familiarity with navigating in both a relational (Teradata-based) and non-relational (Hadoop) environments. Strong SQL skillset required. Knowledge of Java / Scala / Apache Spark is a bonus.

-Highly autonomous and productive in performing activities, requiring only minimal direction from or interaction with supervisor.

-Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Experiences that make you a strong candidate for this role:

Required

•        Bachelor's degree in a Quantitative discipline (e.g., Applied Math, Operational Research, Computer Science, or related Engineering degree) with 10+ years of relevant experience, or

•        Master’s degree in a Quantitative discipline (e.g., Applied Math, Operational Research, Computer Science, or related Engineering degrees) with 8+ years of relevant experience.

•         7+ years of relevant experience in Business Intelligence (BI) / Data Warehouse (DW) and Analytics; experience will include one or more of the following: Data Information Analyst, Systems Analyst, Data Architect, Analytics / Reporting Architect.

•        Solid understanding of impacting, emerging and vendor trends in the BI / DW / Analytics space,

•        Requires in-depth knowledge of system development lifecycle, Agile Scrum methodologies and modern engineering practices.

•        Knowledge of applicable regulations and standards affecting Pharmaceutical Products (e.g, CFR 210/211, cGMP) as well as knowledge of the applicable regulations affecting the practice of pharmacy (federal, state, and local as well as HIPAA),

•         Interacts well with diverse groups within function and maintains strong working relationships with internal and external collaborators and stakeholders,

•         Lifesciences, healthcare analytics background strongly preferred.
