This position manages the daily operations of the ASN Pet Housing Center.
spcaLA’s ASN program provides temporary housing for animals of survivors of domestic violence and families in different crises. We are seeking an energetic leader who has experience caring for animal shelter populations and is knowledgeable in working with highly vulnerable members of our community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate all aspects of the ASN Pet Housing Program including managing the program budget.
- Manage and engage staff and volunteers, foster a culture based on teamwork.
- Oversee matters relating to the humane care of animals by ensuring safe, sanitary conditions.
- Manage ASN info line and respond to calls in a timely manner.
- Manage intakes, owner returns and relinquishments, and maintain communication with clients.
- Build strong interdepartmental communications and relationships with medical, shelter managers, and training staff.
- Pursue and maintain partnerships with shelters of domestic violence survivors and people experiencing homelessness; treatment centers for people with mental health or substance abuse challenges, and other key stakeholders. Includes conducting presentations.
- Coordinate and plan ASN Youth Families program, including scheduling and curriculum development.
Key Qualifications:
- Skills: Required: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to navigate confidential and highly sensitive/stressful situations; detail-oriented. Preferred: Bilingual – Spanish.
- Experience: Required: Minimum one year experience in a lead supervisory role; experience working at an animal shelter, kennel, or veterinary clinic. Ability to provide trauma-informed, culturally sensitive services and programs for intimate partner/domestic violence survivors, underserved populations and youth in a variety of settings. Preferred: Animal shelter management experience (public or private).
- Knowledge of: Safe/humane handling of animals of varying sizes, temperaments, and strengths; various breeds of dogs, cats, and other domestic animals.
- Ability to: Handle complex situations with staff, volunteers, and/or the public professionally and equitably; execute projects with little or no supervision; multi-task and problem solve in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work every weekend and some holidays.
- Software: Required: Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, and Outlook) Preferred: Shelterluv and/or other shelter management software; Microsoft Teams; Zoom
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $64,500.00 - $68,000.00 per year
