Job Description

Our client is seeking an Azure Application Support DBA for a 12+ month contract in Irving, TX. Will be working on an Onsite schedule. 

Contract Duration: 12 Months

Required Skills Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years total experience in Database Administration.
  • Hands-on Experience in Azure and Azure Managed SQL.
  • Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity experience.
  • DBA experience in a 24x7 production environment.
  • Experience with traditional RDBMS like Oracle, SQL and NOSQL like Cassandra or MongoDB or Apache Ignite.
  • Experience in Public Cloud platform –Azure.
  • Experience with developing and managing applications across multiple data centers is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, problem-solving and analytical skills, including the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts and designs to a broad range of people.
  • Strong experience in using Agile (Scrum / Kanban / SAFe) project development methodologies.
  • Strong command of SQL and SQL server tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of database security, backup and recovery, and performance monitoring standards
  • Implement optimal backup and recovery.
  • Understand and optimize query performance.
  • PowerShell and Unix shell scripting skills.
  • Strong mathematical and statistical knowledge

Desired Skills Experience
  • Master’s degree.
  • Understanding of infrastructure as code paradigm, especially infrastructure using Terraform and/or cloud formation.
  • Understanding of containerization and Orchestration technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes etc.
  • Understanding of monitoring and logging tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, ELK, New Relic, Dynatrace etc.
  • Implementation and Administration of any source code repository
  • Familiarity and administration of automated build process.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Application Support Database Administrator experience (Must: Azure Managed SQL).
  • Install and maintain the performance of database servers.
  • Proactively monitoring database performance and troubleshooting issues.
  • Working cross-functionally with our engineers and analytics professionals to optimize queries, fix performance bottlenecks, improve existing schemas, and design new ones.
  • Creating and maintaining change control and testing processes, reviewing, and approving database modifications.
  • Conducting research and making recommendations on data-related products, services, protocols, and standards; planning for future growth of our data asset.
  • Reviewing development and deployment processes related to databases and identifying areas of improvement (such as online schema changes).
  • Implement appropriate indexes for performance improvement.
  • Be available for on-call support as needed.
  • Design and implement DR plans HA solutions and recommendations.
  • Work closely with the application team to understand what changes are coming in a build/patch/hotfix, do an impact analysis, fine-tune the queries if any.
  • Automate the process of deploying DB changes so that we can support this for a new build/patch/hotfix.
  • Act as an application DB during the design process.
  • Solid understanding of SDLC.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Impeccable attention to detail.
