Business Unit and Position Summary:

Crane ChemPharma Energy Flow Solutions is a division within the Fluid Handling Business Segment of Crane Co, a US multi-national which specializes in highly engineered products in niche markets. Crane ChemPharma Energy Flow Solutions designs, manufactures, markets and distributes a range of process valves and actuators under multiple brand names for a wide range of applications in a number of industries including the refinery, chemical, biopharmaceutical, and energy industries.

Position Summary:

The BI Data Analyst is a Business Intelligence focused role that will be an essential part of the team leading the Global Business Intelligence rollout across ChemPharma Energy. The ideal candidate will possess proven technical expertise in BI Implementations, strong business acumen, and excellent interpersonal skills. This role will involve around 70% Power BI development and 30% Data Engineering on the Azure stack. This position is focused on meeting the visualisation, reporting and analytics needs of key business functions through development and experience of data models. We are looking for someone that is a functional developer focused on business requirements rather than a pure platform developer. This is a great opportunity to work on building a BI platform from scratch for a company that has significant leadership engagement to undergo a BI tech transformation.

Principle Duties:

  • Translating business requirements into data models to manage data within the organization, using sound technical expertise
  • Designing and implementing end-to-end reporting solutions, from data integration to ready to use product that provides business with valuable insights
  • Creating and maintaining the Data Platform analytics technical components. This includes relational data modelling, star schemas, reporting views and ETL batch feeds
  • Producing and automating delivery of key metrics and KPIs to the business. In some cases, this will focus on making data available and others will be developing full reports for end users
  • Managing the Data Platform roadmap ensuring technical future proofing, capacity and optimization of the platform
  • Working with the IT Operations team and BI Vendor to resolve any production issues
  • Managing stakeholder demand and backlog of reporting requirements and needs
  • Maintaining relationships with key vendors to plan and adapt the Data Platform roadmap and best leverage the capabilities that we have
  • Monitoring usage of the Data Platform and working with users to deprecate reports and data sets that are not needed and creating a continuous improvement model for the data
  • Actively working with users to understand data issues, tracing back data lineage and helping the business put appropriate data cleansing and quality processes in place
  • Managing secure access to data sets for the business
  • Focal point interface between BI Vendor, IT, and business teams to foster effective collaboration
  • Manage the project schedules and drive focus towards the critical path items. Define and communicate key program milestones and collaborate with the broader team for tollgate reviews
  • Monitoring and reporting on the uses of emerging technologies, and seeking areas for continuous improvement
  • Ensuring all activities adhere to the relevant data visualization and data modelling processes, procedures and standards
  • Prescribe and doggedly follow CBS processes and toolkits to achieve operational excellence
  • Submit Weekly Report to update on the progress of assigned tasks
  • Follow project charge from IT Leader
  • Ensure compliance with IT policies and regulations

Essential Qualifications / Experience:

  • BS or MS degree in Computer Science or a related technical field
  • 4+ years of Power BI experience
  • 4+ years of SQL experience (No-SQL experience is a plus)
  • 4+ years of experience with schema design and dimensional data modelling
  • Ability in managing and communicating data warehouse plans to internal stakeholders
  • Experience designing, building, and maintaining data processing systems
  • Must be willing to travel to domestic/international Crane or customer locations, with up to 50% travel at peak-times

Desirable Qualifications / Experience:

  • Knowledge of best practices and IT operations in an always-up, always-available service
  • Proven Business intelligence and data experience gained in previous roles
  • Previous experience of meeting the visualization, reporting and analytics needs of key business functions through development of presentation and data models
  • Working closely with business management teams to understand their requirements and develop reporting or analytic solutions
  • Defining and developing data sets, models and cubes.
  • Experience developing using SQL, relational databases and data warehousing technologies. Primary skill required SQL, SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, Power BI, Power Query and DAX
  • Desirable to have working knowledge of SalesForce data structures
  • Experience with or knowledge of Agile Software Development methodologies
  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Process oriented with great documentation skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with a keen sense of customer service
  • Experience presenting to stakeholders
