Position Summary: The SQL Developer will join a high-performing, highly-visible, cross functional team of BI Analysts and report developers. Operating in a fast-paced environment, they will have the ability to make a substantial impact on day-today operations and strategic initiatives. They will work on projects directly for the executive team and senior leaders and will gain exposure to a variety of business units, systems, and processes.

Essential Duties

  • Efficiently write complex SQL queries, functions, stored procedures, etc. using advanced T-SQL features such as window functions
  • Query optimization using techniques such as query tuning, indexing, partitioning, compression, etc.
  • Create efficient, robust, and resilient data loading processes using SQL, SSIS, Azure Data Factory, and other similar tools to provide clean datasets to downstream reporting processes.
  • Create validation processes to ensure data accuracy
  • Analyze existing SQL (e.g. stored procs, functions, scripts) and make modifications as required
  • Monitor scheduled jobs (SQL Server Agent, Azure Scheduler, Power BI refreshes, etc.), troubleshoot failed processes, address issues soon as possible
  • Develop best practices, documentation standards, processes and procedures for all SQL-related development
  • Will be expected to analyze and convert business requirements to technical requirements, design and implement solutions, and work with report developers on the team to deliver information in the most effective way
  • Responsible for test plans/test cases creation and coordination as needed


  • Expert knowledge of T-SQL
  • Highly adept at ready query plans and using tools like SQL Server Profiler and Extended Events to troubleshoot performance issues
  • Significant experience with both dimensional/OLAP and relational database modeling
  • Basic understanding of Windows and Azure-based security (Active Directory security group, Microsoft 365 Groups, etc.)
  • Basic understanding and experience with version control software such as Git and CI/CD platforms such as Azure DevOps pipelines.
  • Experience with database code management tools such as Visual Studio SQL Server projects, Flyway, Liquibase
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities and timelines is critical for this role
  • Strong inter-personal and communication skills; capable of mentoring staff, acting as a vendor liaison, making presentations/leading meetings, and working closely with management.
  • Experience in Database performance, development, maintenance, query tuning/optimization
  • In-depth understanding of database security, backup, recovery, and performance monitoring
  • Familiarity with relational and dimensional data modelling
  • Extensive knowledge in database design, implementation


  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, math preferred
  • 4+ years of relevant experience as a SQL developer or DBA, preferably in insurance.
