Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Sr. Azure Data Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for collaborating with cross-functional teams to gather data requirements, developing efficient data solutions, and ensuring the accurate formatting and storage of enterprise data. The selected candidate will work closely with our reporting team to provide actionable insights based on reliable and repeatable data. In addition, the candidate will be involved in documentation, data governance, and providing level II/III support of ETL and/or warehousing solutions.

This is a Remote/Work from Home position reporting to the BI Reporting and Development Manager.

What you will do:
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and design optimal data solutions.
  • Mentor other Azure Data Engineers-- especially comfortable sharing knowledge, reviewing code, and fostering a highly collaborative, solutions-forward environment.
  • Develop and implement robust ETL processes using Microsoft SQL Server, Azure Synapse Analytics, and Azure Data Factory to transform and load data into the data warehouse.
  • Format, cleanse, and store data in a structured manner to ensure data quality and accessibility for reporting and analysis.
  • Work closely with the reporting team to ensure the accuracy and reliability of data used for generating reports and insights.
  • Create comprehensive developer documentation for data pipelines, processes, and solutions.
  • Participate in data governance activities to ensure data integrity, security, and compliance.
  • Utilize source control to manage and track changes to data pipelines and codebase.
  • Contribute to improving our documentation and data governance.
  • Provide level II/III support to troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues and inquiries.
  • Provide ancillary support for lite Machine learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) processes.
  • Run point on larger projects to support other Azure Data Engineers, collaborate with peers across the department and functional areas and report out to senior management.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and best practices related to data warehousing, ETL, and data engineering.

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in data engineering, with a strong background in ETL development using SSIS and Azure Data Factory.
  • Possessing over 5 years of experience in data warehousing, including proficiency in designing and implementing both star and snowflake schemas. Familiarity with Kimball methodologies in data warehousing is highly desirable.
  • Minimum 2 years of direct experience in Azure Synapse, encompassing design and implementation of data lakehouse architectures with Spark SQL.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Microsoft SQL Server with focus in queries, stored procedures, views, and basic database operations.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric, showcasing applied skills and expertise.
  • Established Background in mentoring and providing training to fellow Data Engineers, fostering skill development and knowledge transfer within the team.
  • Solid experience with GIT within an Azure DevOps environment, showcasing strong version control and collaborative development skills.
  • Possession of relevant certifications in Microsoft Azure and data engineering, coupled with experience in Python programming, data lakehouse design, and data profiling are desired.
  • Experience in developing ETLs for Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications are strong assets.
  • Understanding of data governance, data quality, and data security frameworks and standards.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, presentation, problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Self-starter with strong organizational and time management skills, self-directed and able to handle multiple priorities with demanding timeframes.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with colleagues and staff to create a high-quality results-driven, team-oriented fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to use discretion, make sound decisions, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours.
  • Proficient in MS Office (including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio, Word), modern communication tools for virtual teams (i.e., MS Teams)

  • Keyboarding (70-90%)
  • Viewing computer monitor, tablet and cell phone requiring close vision (70-90%)
Work Environment:
100% Remote: Work environment is indoors at home.
