Data Model to Class Design

I am getting involved in a troubled project to do a re-architecture of the same. The data model is well defined and stable. The problem was with the .NET application code (very poor code, huge performance bottlenecks, etc.)

I was wondering if anyone has done a class design from data model (reverse design) with necessary functional knowledge. Any references / suggestions?
